Symptoms
Learn about common respiratory and lung-related symptoms, their possible causes, diagnosis, treatment and when to seek medical attention.
Snoring
Snoring is a noisy sound produced when airflow through the nose or throat is partially blocked during sleep. Occasional snoring is common, but frequent or loud snoring can sometimes be associated with obstructive sleep apnea or other breathing problems.
Shortness of Breath When Lying Down (Orthopnea)
Orthopnea is shortness of breath that occurs or becomes worse when lying flat and improves when sitting or standing. It can be associated with heart or lung conditions and should be evaluated when it is persistent, new or worsening.
Breathlessness During Exercise
Breathlessness during exercise is shortness of breath that occurs while walking, running, climbing stairs or performing other physical activity. It can be a normal response to intense exercise, but breathlessness that is new, excessive or occurs with mild activity may indicate an underlying lung, heart or other medical condition.
